Alumni Spotlight – Hanover Recruiting at Georgetown

JayforBlogGeorgetown: Jay Whittemore

In brief, what is your role at Hanover?

Since last year, I have been promoted from Director of Client Solutions to Content Specialist on Hanover’s Development team. I support the Development Directors in our Market Insight Center practice during their conversations with prospects. Specifically, I speak with prospects regarding their specific needs for market research. During these conversations, I help prospects navigate the vast array of Hanover’s solutions and recommend the best overall approach and research methodology based on their unique situation.

Why did you decide to work at Hanover?

One of my wife’s close friends began her career at Hanover prior to leaving for law school, and spoke very highly of her experience at the company. Through her, I was able to speak with a few eventual colleagues on research, all of whom blew me away with their intelligence, professionalism, and passion for their craft.

In your opinion, what sets Hanover apart from other organizations?

In short, it’s the talented and passionate cadre of colleagues across the organization. But beyond just the sheer number of smart people collected in one place, I believe Hanover has a very unique corporate personality, so to speak. We’re definitely too big to be a start-up, but there is a refreshing can-do, “we’ll-figure-this-out” attitude that pervades all of our corporate functions.

Why should graduates at your alma mater be interested in working at Hanover?

Because we are a small, fast-growing company, there is a unique opportunity to gain outsized professional experience and exposure very early in your career. Entry-level hires have the opportunity for rapid promotion and professional development; they also have the opportunity to meet regularly with senior leadership. Hanover incubates and cultivates a deep bench of talent, and the opportunity to grow as Hanover grows is not to be missed, in my opinion.

What is your favorite part of your job/the company?

For starters, no two days are the same (always nice!). But the one thing I like most about Hanover is that you are frequently asked to solve problems by collaborating with colleagues in different departments. In doing so, you are very much contributing to the continued growth and success of the company – and deriving a great sense of ownership of your future in the process.

Hanover will be at Georgetown on February 13th, see you there!

We’ll be coming to a school near you soon! Be sure to check out all our upcoming visits.
