In brief, what is your role at Hanover?
As a Senior Associate for the K-12 team, I work directly with one of our K-12 directors, supporting various stages of the sales process. I am responsible for making the initial contact with each potential opportunity, by strategically prospecting and scheduling phone meetings on behalf of my director. Upon being promoted to a Senior Associate, I have taken on additional responsibilities that involve mentoring new associates, working on content-based projects, and participating in a task force regarding the changing political landscape of K-12 education in America and its impact on Hanover.
Why did you decide to work at Hanover?
I decided to work at Hanover shortly after I came into the office to interview. JMU has a good alumni presence at Hanover, which really drew me in. The culture is unique, and one that all recent college graduates should look for. The office is full of people who are young, passionate, and hardworking; and there is a strong sense of “work hard, play hard”.
In your opinion, what sets Hanover apart from other organizations?
Hanover sets itself apart from other organizations in that it is only 13 years old, yet has been ranked, two years in a row, as one of the top 50 fastest growing companies in D.C. Because of its small size, C-level executives are easily accessible and daily interactions with upper management are very common. There is a lot of room for growth at Hanover and people are extremely open and encouraging when it comes to exploring new departments internally.
Why should graduates at your alma mater be interested in working at Hanover?
While Hanover recruits from colleges all over, it has a strong alumni base in Virginia and the culture is pretty similar to that of JMU. People are very friendly and welcoming, and it’s an easy place to feel comfortable amidst being in a new setting with new people. Not to mention, it’s always fun to pass someone in a Tech shirt and make a comment about that game back in 2010.
What is your favorite part of your job/the company?
My favorite part about working at Hanover is definitely the people. I look forward to coming to work each day because I know I’ll be surrounded by positive, motivated, and outgoing colleagues that keep the days alive. It’s rare to find the perfect job right out of college, but when you work with people who are also some of your best friends, it makes any rough day that much easier. This job is also extremely rewarding, in that each time a new deal comes in, the associate is recognized for making the initial contact, which confirms the hard work is worth it in the end.
Hanover will be at JMU on February 16th, see you there!
