James Madison: Nico Tamm
In brief, what is your role at Hanover?
I am currently part of the Business Intelligence function of the Operations team at Hanover (Associate Director, Business Intelligence), responsible for managing internal and external data primarily through the use of our CRM tool, Salesforce. In conjunction with my team, I help keep Hanover organized and operational, and provide analytical reports needed for senior management to make strategic decisions. I also previously served in both Member Relations and Development roles at Hanover.
Why did you decide to work at Hanover?
I found Hanover on JMU’s “Recruit-a-Duke” Careers page while searching for entry-level business development/marketing roles after graduation. The innovative customized research model, rapid growth, and young, motivated work-culture instantly drew me to the company.
In your opinion, what sets Hanover apart from other organizations?
Apart from our unique customized research services model in the context of a sequential queue (like Netflix!), Hanover offers its employees rapid upward mobility in a variety of careers, whether that’s promotion in one’s original field, or movement into different functions across the company. Our extremely intelligent, young, driven employee culture is also very unique, that you’ll have difficulty finding anywhere else. Finally, Hanover does a fantastic job of encouraging (and seriously considering) every employee’s input when it comes to making process improvements, building upon existing capabilities, or creating any other change to the status quo. You won’t find the bureaucratic red-tape present at many large corporations. Everyone’s input, output, and opinion is valued and appreciated.
Why should graduates at your alma mater be interested in working at Hanover?
JMU’s excellent reputation for delivering young, bright, driven individuals with strong interpersonal skills makes Hanover a perfect fit for JMU grads.
What is your favorite part of your job/the company?
There are a host of reasons why I enjoy working for Hanover. This may sound repetitive by now, but cannot be overstated: the culture is extremely intelligent, young, friendly, innovative, motivated, and open. New ideas and suggestions are always considered and hard work is rewarded with rapid upward mobility. The extensive growth and overall success of the company across each of the three years I’ve worked at Hanover has truly been astounding.
