Princeton University: Michael Tierney
In brief, what is your role at Hanover?
I am a Senior Content Director in the Market Insight Center. I work collaboratively with clients to identify and define current or potential questions; propose, design, and execute appropriate research methodologies; manage our research staff throughout the project lifecycle; communicate our findings; and offer strategically valuable insight gleaned through our research to foster further growth in the private sector.
Why did you decide to work at Hanover?
I chose Hanover as much for what it can be as for what it is. Hanover is at an inflection point in its development, refining its core offerings while concurrently thinking of new ways in which it can help current and prospective clients. In contradistinction to some other opportunities available to me at the time, Hanover offered a unique environment that welcomes strategic insight and new ideas at the highest levels of the company. Perhaps most importantly, my colleagues here are uniformly bright and exceptionally motivated, attributes that, taken collectively, make for a wonderful work environment.
In your opinion, what sets Hanover apart from other organizations?
The people, as well as the culture they engender here. Hanover is teeming with intellectual firepower and experience, as well as a certain ambition necessary in this industry, but all of that is tempered (or some might say enhanced) by an overriding kindness and sociability that are sadly somewhat rare in the information services world, broadly defined. I have been working in and around the Washington, DC, area for over a decade now, and I can honestly say that I have never worked with more capable, bright, and thoughtful colleagues.
Why should graduates at your alma mater be interested in working at Hanover?
I think that – to a certain extent – you can treat Hanover as a paid extension of Princeton. We are a young, vibrant company with young, vibrant employees doing mentally stimulating work in a demanding yet highly social environment. It’s really that simple. We don’t have eating clubs, but I presume that’s just a matter of time…
What is your favorite part of your job/the company?
I think my other answers more or less cover this question, but I will add that in a world of companies advertising themselves as “special,” Hanover defies the odds by actually being special. Join us and find out why, first-hand. Even if you majored in English with a concentration in Creative Writing…
Hanover will be at Princeton’s #HireTigers Meetup Alternative Career Fair on September 19th, see you there!
