In brief, what is your role at Hanover?
The Development Associate role works directly with the Development Director to drive business in a specific practice. In other words, the Development Associates research and generate leads for new business, contact and schedule meetings with leads, and facilitate the sales process. Essentially the Development Associate begins the sales process, which is critical to the company.
Why did you decide to work at Hanover?
Like many Fourth Years, I was unsure which direction to take after college. I knew that I wanted to be challenged in a great work environment. Fortunately, I have a good friend who graduated from UVA a year ahead of me and she assured me that Hanover Research was a great place to work and encouraged me to apply. After exploring the role and the company culture further I realized that the Development Associate role was the perfect step into the working world, offering exposure to a quickly growing business.
In your opinion, what sets Hanover apart from other organizations?
I can easily say that the character and comradery of the people who work at Hanover exceeded all expectations, and I think that is rare to find at a company right out of college. I remember thinking the first week that I started, “everyone here is so nice” — and that has continued to be true. It helps to have someone always encouraging you and sympathizing with you day to day.
Why should graduates at your alma mater be interested in working at Hanover?
Any job at Hanover is a great opportunity to use the skills you developed at UVA and continue to grow. Hanover is full of people who are passionate and work hard to succeed, so it’s not a hard transition from the atmosphere in Charlottesville. Also, there is a large contingent of UVA alums in the office, so you will never miss an opportunity to talk about how happy you are to see UVA Basketball crush an opponent. I love that I get to drop the casual “how about the Hoos last night?” in passing on a regular basis.
What is your favorite part of your job/the company?
I’m lucky to be able to answer that there are a lot of great aspects to Hanover. Overall, the company has a wonderful culture. I like to spend time with the people I work with on the weekends and after work, which makes it fun to go to work every day. Hanover is also committed to community service, and we try to plan at least one service event a month for co-workers. After volunteering one night with Hanover at DC Central Kitchen, I decided to help plan future events, and I’m excited about being a part of that aspect of the company too.
