Our group volunteered at the Gulf Branch Nature Center in Arlington. Our main project for the day was to clear brush and invasive plants from a hill next to the center. The nature center staff plans to eventually use the hillside space we cleared for new, local plants to be used in community education projects. Our site coordinator, Scott, taught us about the local plants and wildlife as we worked, and spotted some wine berries which many of us tried and enjoyed.
One Hanoverian, James Wilcox, even found a box turtle while clearing away some brush!
Our group wrapped up our trail clearing earlier than expected, so we also helped out by cleaning tables and chairs for the newly renovated nature Center. Overall, we had a very tiring but rewarding day!
