What is Hanover Research’s recruiting process like? 

Depending on the position to which you are applying, the application process can vary. Research and content producing positions have a greater emphasis on reviewing candidates’ writing skills, while our sales and account management roles have more of a verbal-based interview process. Regardless of the position, the recruiter will keep you informed of each next step. Our recruiters will help you throughout the recruiting process and serve as your advocate and guide. The interview process typically takes between 2 – 6 weeks, depending on the role (with research positions taking a little longer than sales/development positions). If you are not selected to move forward at any point during the application process, you will be advised of the decision by email. If you are not considered for a position the first time you apply, we encourage you to apply in the future as you acquire additional experience and skills. As our company grows, new positions become available throughout the year and we are always accepting applications.

When should I expect to hear back from Hanover Research after I apply to a position?

Every position has a unique timeline. Typically, you should expect to hear back within two to four weeks.

I have applied online, but what if I would also like to contact the hiring manager or a recruiter?

Due to the high volume of applicants and thorough nature of our review process, it may take up four weeks before our recruiters respond to applicants. If you have not received notification after one month, please call us at (202-559-0050) and our office manager will forward your inquiry onto a recruiter. After the message has been relayed, you should expect to hear back within a few days. If your experiences and qualifications are a possible fit for the position to which you have applied, the recruiter will discuss the next steps in our application process.

I am interested in several positions. Can I apply to more than one position at a time?

Yes, you are welcome to apply to all the positions that you feel you are qualified for, however it will not increase your chances of being selected to move forward to the next round. While there is a lot of overlap of responsibilities with roles in each of our departments, we recommend that applicants focus their application on a few positions that are a close fit with their skills and experience as well as longer-term career goals instead of submitting applications to all listed vacancies. A more targeted approach will demonstrate self-awareness and a focused interest in that role to the hiring team. You can note your broader interest in your cover letter.

What are you looking for in my writing sample?

Please submit an original writing sample that demonstrates your ability to use primary and/or secondary research effectively and synthesize information into a cohesive report. Suggestions for types of submissions include, but are not limited to, academic papers, business pieces, and a published article. Writings such as blog posts, memorandums, opinion pieces or polarizing topics are not recommended.

Why is the Berke Assessment a component of the hiring process?  

The online assessment test has been created to help gauge overall job, company, and cultural fit. Hanover has found the test to be very beneficial in assessing talents and traits, such as creative problem solving, emotional responses to stress, logical problem solving,  and sociability. These traits are difficult to assess through a traditional interview or by reviewing only written materials. Using the results from the assessment in conjunction with the application materials, the hiring team decides if the  individual would be a good fit for the role and team. Building cohesive and collaborative teams is a fundamental aspect of our hiring process. The test is not a finite measure of success in the role; rather, it allows our recruiters to apply a different (and completely objective) lens when considering applicants.

What happens to my profile once I have applied?

Any and all information entered into our application system is immediately forwarded to the recruiter handling the job order. It is placed in a queue along with other candidates and reviewed in the order in which it was received. As soon as the application is processed, a recruiter will contact you regarding next steps in the application process. Due to the high volume of applications, we are unable to meet and speak with each applicant. If based on your qualifications you are not being considered for the position, you will be notified by email. Please understand that we do appreciate your interest and feel free to reapply in the future.

How long do employees typically stay in the same role at Hanover? 

For all positions, Hanover prefers promoting from within. Therefore, we evaluate performance over tenure and offer fast-track advancement for high performers.

How frequently are employees evaluated and by whom? 

Depending on the position, formal performance reviews are given on a six-month or yearly basis. However, there are often informal evaluations that result in off-cycle promotions.

I received an email indicating that I was not selected to move forward in the process for a specific role but I still see that position listed on the website. Hasn’t that position been filled? 

As a high-growth environment, Hanover Research is always looking for talented individuals to join our team. We will always have our core roles in Research and Sales listed on our Careers page and we will always be accepting applications to these positions. Unfortunately, we are unable to move forward with all applications but that does not exclude an applicant from reapplying to Hanover Research at any point in the future.
